Program Information

Students participate in an intensive two-week program offering a fantastic performing experience and training with the festival's distinguished music faculty, comprised of many of the world's renowned performers and teachers. A unique opportunity awaits students who are ready for professional performances and would like to perform in historic halls.
The program offers standard repertory training for students of piano, violin, viola, violoncello, flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, french horn, harp and voice; pre-formed chamber groups are encouraged to apply. Private lessons and chamber music coachings are led by the world-class international faculty. Pianists collaborate with other instrumentalists and singers.
The focal point of the festival is Chamber music. Solo opportunities are reserved for the outstanding talents determined by the artistic leadership of the festival in consultation with the faculty. Students interested exclusively in solo opportunities are discouraged from applying.
Chamber music groups will be assigned based on tapes or a faculty classifications and will be grouped by ability level;
Aside from Vianden Festival-organized programs there is the opportunity to arrange extra individual or chamber lessons with any faculty member at an additional charge.
Vianden International Music Festival participants are advanced students from best conservatories and colleges of the United States, Europe, and Asia, some outstanding young musicians, devoted music amateurs and some aspiring active professionals. Students are encouraged to attend all concerts and take advantage of performance opportunities.
Students must submit their Performance Repertoire Request after they are notified of acceptance. Notifications of soloists, chamber music groups (on the basis of recording audition), and repertoire are e-mailed to each participant six or more weeks before the festival. All student concert appearances are subject to faculty approval and at the discretion of the festival organizers. Everyone has to arrive with their parts learned and ready for rehearsal immediately. Participants are expected to stay in Vianden for the full two weeks, without absences
PASSIVE PARTICIPANTS PROGRAM
For PASSIVE PARTICIPANTS Vianden Music Festival offers the opportunity to participate in all program´s activities, just without active playing.
Embark upon a fascinating exploration of European history and cultural heritage. Discover the many architectural and musical beauties, share the excitement of attending concerts by Festival´s talented student performers. We welcome parents and friends of the participants and any other music lovers wishing to visit our program.
- EUR 1150 Auditor’s Fee per person is payable if a student is accompanied by another person (parent, relative, partner, friend or guardian). It covers attendance as an observer at all the classes and concerts, room and half-board (double occupancy; single occupancy is possible at supplemental fee) , and use of all facilities.
CHAMBER MUSIC ASSIGNMENT
For chamber music assignment purposes
If you are attending courses with a teacher or professor, he/she will help you to classify your performing level in the application form. For classification please use the following scale: Elementary - Pre-intermediate - Intermediate - Advanced - Superior in both of Student ~ Professional and Amateur ~ Non-professional sections.

ASSEMBLING OF THE CHAMBER GROUPS
After the application deadline on March 1, 2012, the Festival´s organizational staff will assemble chamber groups from registered participants using their audition tape or faculty recommendation based on "classification scale” from the application form. Ensembles will be completed with respect to level of studies, age and performing experience. In addition your ensemble and repertory preferences will be taken into consideration.
In early June, you will receive from the Festival by e-mail chamber music assignments.
Vianden Festival expects that all participants will provide their own music materials. Please remember and remind your students that preparation of individual members of ensemble will increase satisfaction of whole ensemble during studies and concert performances at the festival.
We encourage applications of preformed chamber groups and grant 150 euro discount to each member of such groups(minimum 3 members).
OPPORTUNITY FOR AMATEUR MUSICIANS
For these players, Vianden Festival will provide opportunity to rehearse and perform with colleagues at the same level. Their ensembles will be carefully chosen and established according to ability and performing desires conveyed in the application form. The Festival will secure performing venue for the amateur musicians. Please make sure to evaluate your abilities appropriately in the Vianden Festival 2012 application form.
CHAMBER MUSIC INDIVIDUAL LESSONS
The availability of individual lessons for the chamber repertoire to the participants of Vianden Festival is one of the fundamental components of the festival. Two individual lessons will be provided for participants requiring extra assistance with chamber music parts by their tuition. Aside from the Festival-organized programs there is the opportunity to arrange extra individual or chamber lessons with any faculty member at an additional charge. (The Festival´s recommended price is 50 euro).
ACCOMMODATIONS
* The Festival provides the accommodations for all participants from Monday, August 13 through Monday, August 27, 2012 in a 3-star hotels Belle-Vue and Petry, about 3 minute walking distance from the School, accommodating 2 people per room with breakfast and lunch included in the accommodation fee;
Single occupancy is possible: supplement is 240 euro
* The Festival will offer help to participants who arrive early or leave later with booking accommodations based upon availability of a bed and breakfast.
CLOTHING
Informal for all occasions except active participation in concerts, where formal dress is required.
Formal clothing is suggested for the Mayor of Vianden reception in the Vianden Castle
PERSONAL INSURANCE
We recommend that all participants have a personal travel and health insurance for their trip as well as instrument insurance.
MUSIC STANDS, MUSIC
Participants are requested to bring their own music stands and chamber music parts as well as piano accompaniment parts of their solo repertory.
Singers: please be sure to have an extra copies of your music for the accompanist

TRAVEL INFORMATION
The Luxembourg airport Findel does not accommodate transatlantic flights or direct flights from Far East. This means that you need first to fly into one of the European capitals (Zürich, Amsterdam, Frankfurt, Brussels, Paris, London) and then from there fly to Luxembourg. The Festival organizing pick up of the guests from Luxembourg airport Findel.
Vianden has no railway station and can be reached only through the rail/bus combination.
If you ask for Optional transportation from the Luxembourg airport to Vianden , deadline is end of June.The Festival can assist ONLY on an official ARRIVAL (August 13) and DEPARTURE (August 27) DAYS and ONLY those who submitted transportation form ON TIME. No exception will be made.
It is a personal responsibility of Festival participants to make the travelling arrangements outside of an official arrival and departure days or if they for whatever reason did not submit the transportation form.
All students under age 14 should be accompanied by a parent or a guardian !!!
